Emma Campsill
Emma works in the Examinations office at Wakefield College as an Examinations Administrative Officer. In that job she has responsibility for such things as ensuring that students are correctly registered for their examinations and that they receive their certificates when they complete.

“When I started work at the College as a Business Administration apprentice I never dreamed that I might progress to higher education. I must admit that I was a difficult student when I was an apprentice but Maureen Green, my tutor, persevered with me and I’ve got a lot to thank her for. I stopped at level 2 but I got the ‘bug’ to learn more when my manager, Rachel, suggested that I undertake a team leading course. It involved a presentation and an examination to gain the qualification. I then went on to gain my ECDL qualification to improve my IT skills. These courses made me realise that I wanted to do more, so I decided to do the HNC in Business on a part-time basis.

The course took 2 years to complete and I’m now hungry for more, so I’ve enrolled on the HND course that will take me another year of study. If all goes well I plan to go on to the degree course which will take me another 18 months of part-time study. Although I have to pay my fees, the College has given me the time off for study, for which I am very grateful”.

Emma has no definite plans for the future, apart from wanting a well-paid job, probably in a management position. Besides improving her knowledge and ability in business administration and management skills, she feels that the courses have made her much more confident – a view supported by her work colleagues!
